Counterterrorism Axis Should be Strengthened to Confront US Destabilization Policies: President Al-Assad
DAMASCUS, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed the need to strengthen the counterterrorism axis as to confront the US subversive policies which threaten global stability.
President Al-Assad made the remarks during his meeting on Sunday with Iran’s Defense Minister Amir Hatami.
“The policies of the United States and its tools in the region, particularly dealing with the Iranian nuclear file, imposing sanctions on Russia and attempts to prolong the war in Syria through supporting terrorist organizations and escalating threats against Syria each time the Syrian Army and its allies and back up forces conduct a military operation against terrorism, have proved that the counterterrorism axis policies are right and affirmed the importance of strengthening this axis in the confrontation of the US subversive policies which pose threat to global stability,” President Al-Assad said.
President Al-Assad reiterated the importance of coordination between Syria and Iran and of drawing up long-term cooperation plans that enhance elements of steadfastness of the Iranian and Syrian peoples against threats and challenges facing them.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the victories being achieved by the Syrian Arab Army in its war on terrorism.
On his part, the Iranian minister stressed that the history of Syria and the region will speak about the steadfastness of the Syrian people and leadership and about their victory over terrorism being an example to follow not only by the regions’ peoples but also by the peoples of the entire world.
He expressed confidence that Syria will be able to continue this path till it achieves full victory and completely defeats terrorism.
Hatami renewed his country’s firm support for maintaining Syria’s sovereignty and independence away from foreign intervention, noting that Iran will continue to work in accordance with these principles despite threats and pressure put by some countries that support terrorism.
