Palestinian expert on settlement matters Jamal Jom’a has made it clear that Israel’s new settlement plan to set up 2600 settlement units in the occupied Palestinian lands comes within the occupation’s plans that aim to annex 62 % of the West Bank and to demolish 20.000 houses in Al-Quds [Jerusalem] as well as to isolate 22 Palestinian towns from Al-Quds.
He added that 220.000 Palestinians are living in these towns.
The Israeli occupation authorities will set up the new settlement units in strategic areas, mainly in the east of Al-Quds and Selfet and Nablus with the aim of connecting the settlements with each other and cutting the road between Palestinians and their lands, according to Head of Popular Committee of Resisting Settlement and the Wall Salah Al-Khawaja .
Yesterday, Palestinian Presidency Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that the Israeli government is “racing against time to eliminate any remaining possibility to achieve the two-state solution and place more obstacles in the way of the new US administration and obstruct any effort on part of the administration to resume the long-stymied peace process.”
There are over 700,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
