World Education Meeting 2024 asserts the importance of investing in education

BRASILIA, Nov.2, (ST)-With the participation of Syria, the World Education Meeting 2024 was concluded today in the city of Fortaleza, Brazil, by announcing recommendations related to the importance of investing in education and enhancing its quality.

The recommendations indicated that education is a basic human right and a strong factor and driver of progress towards achieving all sustainable development goals. Governments must recognize that spending on education is not a cost that should be reduced, but rather a long-term strategic investment that should be given priority and placed at the top of the national, regional and global political and financial agenda.

They pointed out the need to take multi-sectoral measures to unleash the ability of education to bring about the desired transformation in the areas of: climate, environment, peace, human rights, gender equality, health, nutrition, well-being, science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.

The recommendations stressed the need to provide critical tools to accelerate progress in order to achieve the 4th  goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on “equity and inclusion, enhancing the quality of education in the early childhood and basic education stages, providing lifelong learning opportunities, paying attention to the teaching profession and the conditions of teachers, building partnerships and strengthening governance and leadership in education.”

In addition, the recommendations underlined the need to increase investment in education with greater equity and efficiency through mobilizing local resources, raising investment efficiency and equity, and developing countries’ capabilities to develop national strategies to finance education in a sustainable and innovative manner besides mobilizing resources between sectors for education.”

The recommendations urged the need for collective commitment to accelerate the pace of action and cooperation at the global level until 2030.
