Rome (ST) – The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that after 10 months of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the residents in this region are living in an ever-shrinking area without any proper sanitation or health care services.
WFP stated today: “Palestinians are being repeatedly displaced under evacuation orders that also disrupt aid centers dedicated to supporting them, including food distribution and community kitchens supported by the WFP”. It noted that the intensity of the conflict, the limited number of border crossings and damaged roads severely hamper their operations.
WFP indicated that over the past two months, in light of the ongoing catastrophic hunger, the program was forced to reduce the contents of food parcels in Gaza as the flow of aid decreased and supplies dwindled.
It stressed that with the opening of two or sometimes three border crossings, nearly half of the required food aid entered Gaza last July, and this is expected to be repeated during the current month.
WFP warned in its statement about the condition of the roads destroyed by the war, which the programme uses to transport food aid inside Gaza, indicating that shell holes and debris make it difficult for trucks transporting aid to reach them.
