Volodin: The United States does not need an independent Ukraine

Head of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, stressed that the US administration wants to turn Ukraine into its own colony and use it only as a tool to weaken Russia.

Russia Today website quoted Volodin as saying today, “Washington does not need an independent Ukraine, it wants to make it its own colony, and it also wants to control all the country’s resources and use them only to weaken Russia,” noting that during the eight years following the 2014 coup, during which United States led Kiev regime,  Ukraine was plundered.

“The United States had eight years to make Ukraine democratic, independent, sovereign and prosperous when American advisers and trainers led the Kiev regime after the coup. But instead of developing the country, Ukraine, rich in potential and energy, was plundered, unwanted media was shut down, independent journalists were killed, and political parties were banned and no one from the corrupt government thought in the interests of the Ukrainian people.”

Volodin pointed out that the countries that Washington tried to make “democratic and prosperous” slipped into chaos and faced humanitarian disasters. The whole world has witnessed what American-style democracy has led to in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and others,” he added.

Volodin confirmed on Wednesday that the American society is divided and criticizes the policy pursued by Washington towards Ukraine, noting that “many Americans are increasingly criticizing Washington’s policy in Ukraine, for example, the publications of the major American media outlets.”
