UNRWA: Destruction in Gaza is very massive…20 years are not enough for reconstruction

Occupied Al-Quds,(ST)- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed that the destruction caused by the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip is massive, and that the reconstruction process will take more than 20 years.

Wafa  News Agency reported that the Agency spokesman Jonathan Fowler said today in a statement: The level of destruction is massive, as the Strip has turned into piles of rubble and debris and the people are living among the rubble, and places are full of bombs and unexploded ordnance. He pointed out that reconstruction will be an important, huge and very difficult mission, especially inj terms of rebuilding the education system, and rebuilding damaged hospitals and clinics.

Fowler referred that the occupation has bombed about 170 UNRWA facilities in Gaza Strip, most of which were schools turned into shelter centers which resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Palestinians and the injury of thousands, while 192 of the agency’s employees were martyred since the beginning of the aggression, a number that the United Nations has not witnessed since its establishment in 1945.

Fowler stressed that UNRWA will continue to work in the strip despite the occupation’s attempts to end its role and replace it with other UN agencies.
