BEIRUT, Oct.12, (ST)- The spokesman for the UNIFIL international peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon, Andrea Tenenti, said that his forces refused to leave their positions on the border with Lebanon after the Israeli occupation army has asked them to do that.
Tenenti told AFP: “”Israel” asked us to leave our positions along the Blue Line,” the temporary withdrawal line established by the United Nations in 2000 for the purpose of confirming the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, but it was unanimously decided to stay in the positions because the United Nations flag must fly in this area.”
Four members of the UNIFIL force were injured in Israeli attacks on its headquarters in Naqoura during the past few days, two of whom were of Indonesian nationality and the other two were from the Sri Lankan battalion.
