UNIFIL: Any Deliberate Attack on Peacekeepers Constitutes a Serious Violation of International Humanitarian Law
The United Nations peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon today condemned the Israeli attack on its units, stressing that it constitutes a serious violation of international law.
UNIFIL said in a statement today: “any deliberate attack on peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The statement pointed out that what happened represents a serious development, calling for ensuring the safety and security of United Nations personnel and property and respect for its buildings at all times.
The statement explained that the UNIFIL headquarters in al-Naqoura was hit by explosions this morning for the second time in 48 hours, as two UNIFIL soldiers were injured after two explosions occurred near an observation tower in al-Naqoura.
Four UNIFIL personnel were injured in Israeli attacks on its headquarters in al-Naqoura yesterday.
