Sana’a –(ST)- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced that more than 34,000 Yemeni families have been affected by floods that have swept through 19 governorates in the country.
The UNHCR office in Yemen said in a statement, “The recent heavy rains and floods that hit the country have caused severe damage to more than 12,000 homes and shelters, and more than 34,000 families have been affected by floods in 19 governorates.”
The statement added that the floods led to the submergence of agricultural lands, the death of livestock and the disruption of livelihoods.
Heavy rains fell in several governorates in Yemen, causing floods that left 57 dead and caused extensive material damage.
