The United Nations UN General Assembly on Tuesday adopted overwhelmingly a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip.
153 countries voted in favor of the draft resolution, while 9 countries, along with the Israeli occupation entity, voted against it, while 23 states abstained from voting.
The resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, the need to comply with obligations under international law, and to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
It expressed deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the suffering of Palestinian civilians there, stressing the necessity of protecting them in accordance with international humanitarian law.
During the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October the 7th , the United States prevented the Security Council from adopting a resolution to stop the aggression four times, as it used its veto twice against two draft Brazilian and Emirati resolutions, and also obstructed two Russian draft resolutions, while the Israeli occupation refused implementing the General Assembly and Security Council resolutions issued on the 27th of October and on November, 16th, which both called for immediate and sustainable humanitarian truces, a cessation of hostilities in Gaza Strip, and allowing aid to enter the Strip.
