Health authorities in the US state of New York have warned of the rapid spread of two new Omicron mutants.
CNBC quoted Christine George, a virologist in New York, as saying that the two mutations are spreading rapidly, with a growth rate exceeding by 25 percent the spread of the mutant “PA2 omicron”, which explains the high infections in that state during the past few weeks.
The two mutations, PA 2/12 and PA 1/12/2, were responsible for more than 70 percent of new cases of corona in central New York state last March, but this percentage has now risen to more than 90 percent.
