Rouhani: US Decision Unprecedented in the Current Century
CAPITALS-Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has censured US President Donald Trump for recognizing the Israeli regime’s “sovereignty” over the occupied Golan Heights, saying the unilateral move was against international law.
“No one could imagine that a man in the United States would unilaterally grant a piece of land belonging to a certain nation to a usurper in violation of international law,” Rouhani said in a meeting with a number of Iranian cabinet ministers and executive officials in Tehran on Tuesday, Press TV reported.
He added that some “colonial powers” in the past carried out similar moves and donated a part of a country to another, “but such an action is unprecedented in the current century.”
Breaking with decades of international consensus, Trump on Monday formally recognized Israeli “sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan.
European countries: Golan is an occupied Syrian territory
European countries, members at UN Security Council, Britain, France, Germany, Poland and Belgium rejected on Tuesday the proclamation of US President Donald Trump on the occupied Syrian Golan.
“In light of the international law and UN Security council relevant resolutions, particularly resolutions No.242 and 497, we don’t recognize the annexation of lands, occupied in 1967, to Israel including the Syrian Golan, AP quoted a common statement by the 5th states at a press conference as saying.
The statement added that the EU stance regarding Golan has not changed, affirming that Golan is Syrian territory occupied by Israel.
A Step towards Undermining ME Stability
In Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova warned that US President Donald Trump’s declaration on recognizing the annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan to the Israeli occupation entity represents a step towards undermining stability in the Middle East.
Interviewed by Russia 24 TV Channel, Zakharova said “Russia’s stance towards the Golan is firm and it hasn’t changed and it considers the Golan as a Syrian land.”
She indicated, according to SANA, that Russia’s stance is guided by the Security Council’s resolution No. 497 which affirms that the Israeli occupation’s decision to annex the occupied Syrian Golan as null and void and that it has no legal effect.
Zakharova noted the double standards adopted by the US politicians, because, while claiming keenness on adherance to the international law, Trump’s decision on recognizing the annexation of the Golan to the Israeli occupation entity is made in direct violation of the international law and the international resolutions.
Moscow Says Trump’s Golan Decision May Come as Forerunner of US ‘Deal of the Century’
In another interview with Rossiya-1 television, Zakharova said that the US decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan may come as a forerunner of the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’ on the Middle East advanced by the US, Itar Tass reported.
“We are only beginning to get the reaction of the European Union that is somewhat shocked by what their NATO partners are doing with international law and directly in the region, as we have not yet started discussing the main surprise, ‘the Deal of the Century’ that Washington promises. Maybe this is a forerunner of the surprise in store for all of us,” Zakharova said.
Aoun: Trump doesn’t have the right to decide fate of others’ lands
During his meeting on Tuesday with Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed that Trump’s recognition of occupied Golan annexation to the Israeli occupation entity contradicts international law and Security Council resolutions.
Aoun reiterated that “no president of a foreign country has the right to decide the fate of others’ lands. This behavior completely contradicts with international law and causes dangerous escalation in the region.”
“Golan is an occupied Syrian land,” Aoun added, pointing out that Trump’s decision directly affects the Lebanese interests, because part of the Lebanese territories is also still occupied by Israel.
Venezuela: US covers up Israel’s Criminal policy
In Caracas, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the United States has not been satisfied with the destruction it has caused in the Middle East over decades, the Trump’s administration continues to implement its destabilization schemes in the region through targeting the sovereignty and security of the Syrian people.
By doing so, the United States violates international law, threatens peace and tries to cover up the criminal policy of the Israeli entity.
Spain: Seizing others’ lands by force is unacceptable
In Madrid, the Spanish foreign ministry said that Spain’s stance on the occupied Syrian Golan is consistent with many UN resolutions, stressing that the Spanish government affirms that seizing others lands by force is unacceptable according to UN Charter and Principles of the International law.
Oman, Mauritania, Sudan, Iraq, Somalia also condemned the US president recognition of Israel’s annexation of occupied Golan, stressing that it is a flagrant violation of international legitimacy and it threatens world peace and security.
