Tourism Minister: Promotion of Traditional Handicrafts Industries

DAMASCUS, (ST) –  Minister of Tourism Eng. Bisher Yazigi recently stressed the importance of the advancement of the traditional handicrafts and providing the necessary support to this industry to create the adequate environment to ensure its development because it emphasizes the cultural and civilizational identity.

 The Minister, during a meeting of the Higher Council of Handicrafts at the ministry, pointed to the importance of sharing with the concerned authorities, putting an encouraging and stimulating policies for producers to facilitate their work through securing supplies and raw materials. He stressed the need to create a database for handicrafts and the requirements of work and the focus on the subject of packaging in terms of design and encouraging creativity in the process of production.

For his part, the Head of the General Union of Craftsmen Mr. Yassin al -Sayed Hassan called for studying the potentials of marketing handmade products and finding new markets that enable the owners of these crafts to be continued.            

For their part, members of the Council called for allocating places for manufacturing  handicrafts in all the provinces and the development of standards to support the revival of some of the trades and attract all artisans through real operational procedures.
