The Washington Post: Leaked secret documents reveal Kiev’s plans to target Russian military sites in Syria

Washington (ST): Leaked Pentagon documents revealed that Kiev intelligence had planned attacks on Russian military sites and fuel tanks in Syria, with the help of the US-backed militia (SDF).

The Washington Post said: A top-secret US document, which it viewed, showed that “last winter, the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Directorate launched strikes against Russian and Wagner forces in Syria before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ordered a halt to operations.”

The documents revealed that “Zelinsky ordered the plans to stop last December, but the intelligence information revealed the opposite and showed how these plans progressed and continued, and the documents also showed how the Military Intelligence Service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense could plan deniable attacks, which would avoid the involvement of the Ukrainian government itself”.

In turn, Aron Lund of the Century International Think Tank said: “The attacks on Russian forces in Syria may raise the threat level to the point where the Russians need to call in reinforcements.

The document stated that “Ukrainian military intelligence officers preferred to strike Russian forces using drones and start small strikes, during planning in December, and that Ukrainian officers prepared plans that included training members of the (SDF) militia to strike Russian targets and carry out unplanned activities in addition to drone strikes.”
