The Libyan Accord government announced today its agreement to a cease-fire, hours after issuing a similar announcement by the Libyan army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
“Head of the Accord Government, Fayez al-Sarraj, announced a ceasefire, starting at twelve o’clock this morning,” a statement quoted by Agence France-Press.
Spokesman for the Libyan Army Command, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, announced on Saturday a ceasefire in the western region as of midnight and called on the opposite party to adhere to it at this time.
The spokesman stressed that the response will be harsh in case any section of this agreement is breached.
Since the NATO aggression in 2011, Libya has been witnessing a state of chaos and lawlessness in light of the proliferation of weapons and terrorist organizations.
Currently, two main parties are fighting: the Accord government led by al-Sarraj and the parallel government led by Field Marshal Hafter which is operating in eastern Libya and supported by the House of Representatives in Tobruk as well as the Libyan army.
