Syrian sportsmen continue to make notable achievements in international sport events. Most recently, the Syrian striker Omar Al-Somah won the title of the historic top scorer of Asia Continent.
During his career, Al-Somah has played in most of the stadiums of the Asian continent over the past years.
On Friday, May 12, 2023, Al-Somah was officially announced the historic goal scorer of the Asian Continent with 302 goals scored in different matches for the clubs he played in. By his new score, Al-Somah surpasses the Saudi player Majed Abdullah who had scored 301 goals.
Al-Somah started his career as a footballer at the Syrian “Al-Fotowah” Club. In 2011 he moved to the Kuwaiti “Al-Qadisiyah” Club where he led his team to several wins, including the League Cup twice, the Emir’s Cup twice, the Crown Prince’s Cup twice and the Super Cup twice.
In 2014, Al-Somah moved to the Saudi League and played for Al-Ahly Club in Jeddah where he helped the club achieve several titles, including the Crown Prince Cup, the League Cup, the King’s Cup and the Super Cup. Al-Somah won the League’s top scorer title three times in a row, to become the historic scorer of the competition with 127 goals.
Later, Al-Somah was loaned to the Qatari “Al-Arabi” Club, and yesterday he led the club to winning the Prince’s Cup title.
It is to be noted that Al-Somah was born in the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor on the 28th of March, 1989. He is married with two children. He has been considered as one of the best players in the Asian continent, and he represented the Syrian national team in many competitions and in all age groups.
