Syrian-Iraqi technical talks on ways to activate the railway connection between the two countries  

During a meeting on Saturday in Aleppo, the technical teams in charge of railways between Syria and Iraq continued their discussions on ways to activate the railway connection between the two countries.

The teams were led by Director General of the General Establishment of Railways in Syria Mudar Ali Al-Araj and Director General of the Iraq’s Railways General Company Younis Khaled Jawad. Discussions focused on issues relating to the activation of the railway connection between Syria and Iraq.

In a statement to a SANA reporter in Aleppo, Al-Araj said the two sides affirmed the importance of the railway connection in consolidate bilateral relations between Syria and Iraq and in exchanging service in the field of goods and passengers’ movements through connecting the Syrian ports in Tartous and Lattakia governorates, which overlook the Mediterranean, with Iraq’s ports which overlook the Arab Gulf, including Umm Qasr Port and Al-Faw Grand Port (under construction). They also stressed the need to connect these ports through railways networks.

Discussions also deal with means of settling some financial issues between the two sides in a way that guarantee continuous cooperation in implementing joint future projects.
