Syria will take part in the 23rd Dubai Open Chess Tournament 2023 which is due to open today at Dubai Chess and Culture Club. The tournament will last until the 4th of June, 2023.
170 players representing 47 countries will participate in this tournament. The players will be classified in two categories. Category A includes players rated 2200 (FIDE Standard) and above, while Category B includes players rated 1600 – 2199 (FIDE Standard).
(FIDE) stands for “Federation Internationale des Echecs” – also known as the World Chess Federation.
Head of the Syrian Chess Federation Ali Abbas told SANA that the system of the tournament makes the competition almost equal among all players of the same category and levels up the classification rate of the category. The system also provides a bigger opportunity to the players who seek to achieve international titles in the Masters category, he added.
Abbas pointed out that members of the Syrian team will play within the category B and they are expected to present good performance.
The Syrian team is represented by players Aram Adam, rated 2174, Abdul Qader Rayyes, rated 2124 and the promising player Rami Talab, rated 1924.
The Dubai Open Chess Tournament is an annual open chess tournament organized by Dubai Chess and Culture Club. It is one of the biggest tournaments in the Middle East that attracts players from all over the world.
