Syria, Saudi Arabia welcome the resumption of consular services and flights between the two countries

Syria and Saudi Arabia have welcomed the resumption of consular services and flights between the two countries, stressing the need to enhance security and combat terrorism in all its forms and organizations.

A joint press statement issued at the end of Al-Mikdad’ visit to Saudi Arabia, said that Syria’s Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mikdad visited the Kingdom on Wednesday at the invitation of Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs and within the framework of Saudi Arabia’s keenness and interest in everything that would serve the causes of the Arab nation and promote the interests of Arab countries and peoples.

The statement added that the two sides held talks to discuss the efforts that have been exerted to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria based on  preserving its unity, security, stability, Arab identity, and territorial integrity.

According to the statement, the two sides agreed on the importance of resolving humanitarian difficulties, providing a suitable environment for aid to reach all regions of Syria, creating the necessary conditions for the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons to their areas, ending their suffering, enabling them to return safely to their homeland and taking more measures that would contribute to stabilizing the situation throughout the Syrian territories.

They reiterated the importance of consolidating security, fighting terrorism in all its forms and its organizations and enhancing cooperation in combatting drug trafficking and smuggling. They also stressed the need to support the Syrian state to establish its control over all its territory, to end the presence of the armed militias in the country and to stop foreign interference in the Syrian internal affairs.

Necessary steps to achieve a comprehensive settlement that eliminates the repercussions of the crisis in Syria, achieves national reconciliation and contributes to Syria’s return to its Arab environment to resume its natural role in the Arab world were also stressed, the statement calrified.

Al-Mikdad expressed his appreciation over the efforts being exerted by Saudi Arabia to end the crisis in Syria and to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to the people affected by the earthquake that hit Syria on February 6th.
