Syria, Iraq discuss settling the situation of the Syrian community in Iraq

Baghdad, (ST) – The Syrian Ambassador to Iraq Sattam Jadaan Al-Dandah discussed with Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al-Asadi means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the field of settling the status of the Syrian community in Iraq.

Dandah pointed out in a statement to SANA’s correspondent in Baghdad that the meeting emphasized the depth and importance of fraternal ties and relations and strengthening them, the common challenges facing the two countries, and intensifying cooperation and coordination to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

Dandah clarified that the prospects of cooperation were discussed regarding the affairs of the Syrian community and solving the problems of violators of the Iraqi residency conditions through simplified procedures and reducing fees and fines on violators after the settlement decision was issued.

Addressing the entry of Syrian workers through Erbil and granting them a settlement through a legal deadline until the end of this year to settle their legal status and obtain regular residency and grant them entry visas on the principle of reciprocity was also discussed..

Dandah added: It was agreed to hold a meeting soon with the Iraqi Ministries of Labor and Social Affairs and Interior in order to settle the status of violators of residency conditions and grant them regular residency.

For his part, Al-Asadi stressed that Iraq stands with Syria, its government and people, renewing his country’s welcome to finding appropriate solutions that guarantee the granting of regular residency to the Syrian community.

 He stressed the importance of organizing expatriate workers and settling their status legally.
