Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim discussed with China’s Ambassador to Damascus Shi Hongwei, ways to strengthen bilateral relations, promote the educational and health relations and renew the executive program. They also discussed capacity-building, human resources and scholarships between the two countries.
Dr. Ibrahim noted the deep historical relations between Syria and China, which have achieved significant successes at all levels, noting the role played by China during the war on Syria, the coronavirus pandemic and the earthquake through its support for educational hospitals.
Ibrahim pointed to the importance of making the most of the available scientific capabilities and the need to renew the executive program for the mutual interest of the two countries to establish further cooperation in the areas of the exchange of scientific visits, experiences and scientific research between Syrian and Chinese universities. He noted the possibility of increasing scholarships offered by China, especially in some qualitative disciplines.
In turn, the Chinese Ambassador affirmed that China and Syria have enhanced their friendship throughout history, expressing his intention to strengthen the existing cooperation between the two countries in various fields and his endeavor to develop it to other sectors and broader areas in a manner that realizes the aspirations and common interests of the two countries.
Hongwei noted the need for continued coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to increase scholarships for Syrian students and promote the exchange of experiences between Syrian and Chinese universities.
