Syria and Oman announce the beginning of second phase of restoring Syrian artifacts damaged due to terrorism
Within the framework of cooperation between the Syrian Ministry of Culture-the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums (GDAM)- and the Omani National Museum, the second phase of restoration works on the Syrian artifacts that were damaged due to the terrorist war on Syria.
The agreement with the Omani National Museum involved a number of the Syrian artifacts and the way to ship them to Oman for restoration and then to be displayed in the Omani National Museum so that its visitors from all over the world could learn about the originality of the Syrian civilization, according to head of the General Directorate for Antiquities and Museums Mohammed Nazeer Awad.
Awad stressed that the experts in the Directorate of laboratories at the GDAM are able to carry out the restoration works for these artifacts, including the stone artifacts, but the cooperation with the Omani side include moral support for managing the damaged Syrian archeological heritage and it comes within the framework of a cooperation agreement between the two countries.
He clarified that the cooperation agreement involves restoring museums, the historical buildings and the artifacts, the last of which are the restoration of the buildings of Aleppo Citadel which was damaged due to the earthquake that hit the country in February, 2023.
Regarding the cooperation between the Omani National Museum and Russian experts, Awad said that the Oman Museum has a laboratory for restoring various types and sizes of artifacts, but in dealing with big stone archeological pieces, it asks for the help of specialized experts, including Russian experts from the Hermitage Museum.
