Geneva (ST): President of the Swiss Confederation Ignacio Cassis affirmed his country’s commitment to its neutral position in the Russian-Ukrainian war and will not provide military support to any of the parties involved in the conflicts.
“Switzerland is a neutral country,” TASS news agency quoted Cassis as saying before the United Nations General Assembly. “This means that we strongly respect the right to neutrality enshrined in public international law.”
Cassis added: “We are not involved in conflicts and do not provide any military support to any of the parties to the conflict. Nothing can change this or make it questionable,” stressing that “neutrality does not mean indifference and lack of solidarity.”
Switzerland, a non-EU member state, had previously supported, despite its neutral status, EU sanctions against Russia.
