Lattakia, (ST) – On the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day for Universal Peace, the Sports for All Federation and the Syrian Center for Yoga and Meditation, in cooperation with the Indian Embassy in Damascus, organized yesterday a Yoga event at the Jableh Archaeological Theater in the center of the city.
The event, which witnessed wide participation, included various Yoga exercises, in addition to sports dances presented by a number of children, adolescents, women and the elderly from various centers spread across the Syrian coast, with two participants from the governorates of Sweida and Damascus.
In a statement to reporters, the Indian Ambassador to Damascus Irshad Ahmed expressed his happiness at attending this celebration for the first time in the city of Jableh, which will be followed by two events in the city of Homs and the Jalaa Sports City in Damascus.
He referred to the great popularity of this sport in Syria, which indicates the deep understanding and appreciation that the Syrians have for yoga, which made them adopt it as a lifestyle.
In turn, the head of the Sports for All Federation, Thanaa Mohammed considered this event as a message of love and peace. She pointed to the wide participation in this wonderful sporting event despite the intense humidity and heat, which reflects everyone’s desire to spread sports, peace and love.
The Head of the Supreme Yoga Committee Mazen Issa clarified that yoga is practiced in Syria in a center for free, under the supervision of specialized trainers.
He said that the goal of choosing the ancient amphitheater in Jableh is the positive energy it reflects that blends with the energy of yoga to obtain a positive physical, intellectual and spiritual effect.
