DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sousan has stressed that the European Union has lost its independent decision and has been marginalized at the international arena because of its subordination to the US policies.
During a meeting on Tuesday with a French delegation led by former Minister and MP Thierry Mariani, Sousan said that the European Union has been experiencing successive failures inside and outside, pointing out that the illegitimate unilateral coercive measures the EU imposed on Syria have made it a partner in shedding the blood of the Syrians and in worsening their suffering.
The meeting dealt with the latest developments in Syria, the region and Europe.
Syria’s future is a Syrian issue par excellence
Sousan affirmed that the West’s bets in Syria have failed because of the steadfastness of the Syrian people and army and that the intervention attempts of the countries which conspired on Syria have always aimed to prolong the crisis and complicate the situation in the country.
He asserted that the Syrians are now more than ever determined to keep their national decision independent and to confront all attempts of intervention in their country’s internal affairs, reiterating that Syria’s future is a Syrian issue par excellence.
Sanctions imposed on Syria should be lifted
On his part, Mariani expressed happiness over visiting Syria after the victories achieved against the terrorist groups. He hoped that Syria will surpass the crisis and restore security and stability soon as to return to be an example of coexistence.
Mariani criticized the EU’s wrong policies which led to social and economic crises in its countries and to huge retreat in its role at the international arena.
He reiterated that the European Union should adopt a new approach on the situation in Syria in the light of the new developments, stressing the need to lift the sanctions imposed on the Syrians.
