Washington (ST): A scientific team at the American Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases announced a remarkable achievement after the first woman was cured of HIV.
According to the American Wall Street Journal, this patient, an American with leukemia, became the first woman and third person ever to recover from the “HIV” virus that causes AIDS, after she underwent a stem cell transplant.
The woman contracted the disease in 2013, then developed leukemia in 2017, and since she received cord blood to treat acute myeloid leukemia, her AIDS symptoms were dormant and she recovered from the virus for 14 months without the need for strong HIV treatments.
