Schools of Martyrs’ Sons and Daughters hold celebration marking Martyrs’ Day and the 78th Anniversary of victory in the Great Russian Patriotic War
Damascus (ST): On the occasion of Syria’s Martyrs’ Day on the 6th of May, and the 78th anniversary of the victory in the Great Russian Patriotic War on Nazism, the schools of the sons and daughters of the martyrs held a celebration, embodying the strong Syrian-Russian friendship between the two countries. The celebration was held at the School of the Martyrs’ Daughters in Mezzeh.
The celebration included an afforestation campaign in the school garden, and an exhibition of paintings that embody the depth of the relations between the two peoples and the Syrian and Russian armies. The paintings were drawn by the sons and daughters of the martyrs. Artistic activities, including some songs, lyrics by the school’s choir, folkloric performances from Syria and Russia were also presented.
Major General Lamis Rajab, director of the board of the schools for the sons and daughters of the martyrs, stated in her speech that the Syrian martyrs sacrificed their pure blood so that Syria remains dignified, noting that the celebration of the Holy Martyrs’ Day coincided with the Victory Day in the Russian national war against Nazism.
Major General Rajab praised the generous care of President Bashar Al-Assad and First Lady Asma Al-Assad for the sons and daughters of the martyrs and their families, referring to the Russian Federation’s support for the Syrian people in their war against terrorism.
Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, recalled the values of martyrdom and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the homeland, noting the state’s interest in caring for their sons and daughters and in providing them with support in all its forms. He referred to the distinguished Syrian-Russian relations, which are evident in various educational, economic and political fields.
The Governor of Damascus, Eng. Muhammad Tariq Krishati, indicated that the event embodies the depth of ties and strong and deep-rooted friendship and cooperation relations that are based on mutual respect between Syria and Russia indicating that the celebration of Victory Day over Nazism is an occasion which recalls the heroism and sacrifices made by the Russian people and army for the sake of their homeland and freedom.
