Saudi Foreign Ministry: Smotrich’s extremist statements perpetuate the Israeli occupation and violate international laws
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia warned of the danger of the extremist statements of the Minister in the Israeli occupation government, Bezalel Smotrich, regarding the annexation of the West Bank and the imposition of occupation’s control over it.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency “SPA” that these statements undermine peace efforts, encourage wars, produce more extremism, and double the threat to the security and stability of the region.
The statement stressed that the Kingdom considers these statements a flagrant violation of international laws and relevant UN resolutions, and that they perpetuate the occupation and the expansion of land seizure by force, which constitutes a dangerous precedent,
The statement indicated that the consequences of the continued international failure go beyond the limits of this crisis to affect the legitimacy and credibility of the rules of the international system which threatens its continuity.
Last Monday, during a meeting of the so-called “Israeli Knesset”, Smotrich said that he had issued instructions to prepare for what he called “extending Israeli sovereignty” over the West Bank, adding that he seeks to implement this plan next year, and hopes for support from US President-elect Donald Trump, as these statements were met with widespread Palestinian and international rejection.
