Russian Foreign Ministry: Some Western countries are seeking to turn Libya into a new zone for confrontation

Director of the International organizations Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Pyotr Ilyichev, warned of the attempts by some Western countries to turn Libya into a new zone for confrontation with Russia.

Ilyichev said in an interview with Novosti Agency that these attempts only help to consolidate the existing lines of division on the ground and delay the possibilities of reaching a settlement between the Libyans. He pointed out that Libya has not yet recovered from the blatant aggression launched by NATO against it in 2011 by circumventing UN Security Council resolutions.

Ilyichev called on all Libyan parties to dialogue and determine the timing and measures for holding elections without external pressure or imposed deadlines.
