Russian Foreign Ministry: Existence of extremist groups in Idleb is a source of destabilization

Moscow (ST): Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Siromolotov stressed that the presence of extremist groups in Idleb and the remnants of ISIS and al-Qaeda cells in Syria constitute a source of instability, explaining that the anti-terrorist operation is still ongoing.

In an interview with Sputnik Agency today, Siromolotov said, “The situation with regard to combating terrorism is still very tense. A difficult situation still exists in Syria, where the main destabilizing factors are the existence of extremist groups in the de-escalation zone in Idleb and the presence of ISIS and Al-Qaeda cells.” .

Siromolotov stressed that the Syrian army, in close cooperation with the Russian armed forces, were able during the past year to consolidate success in confronting the terrorist organization “ISIS” on Syrian soil, indicating that as a result, “the capabilities of this organization have been significantly weakened, its strength and important means have been eliminated, and its organizational structure has been destroyed.”

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Siromolotov suggested concluding an agreement on international regulation of Internet governance, pointing out that it would be effective if it was adopted by all countries.
