On April 13th, the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced that it had begun transporting 160 tons of humanitarian aid to Syria, to be delivered to those affected by the earthquake that struck the country on the sixth of last February.
“At the request of the Syrian embassy in Moscow, and at the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin, about 10 flights will be organized to transport humanitarian aid to Syria,” the ministry was quoted by TASS news agency as saying in a statement.
The statement indicated that the first plane to transport humanitarian aid arrived in Syria.
