Russia Strongly Condemns Israel’s Aggression Against Palmyra… It is a Flagrant Violation of Syrian Sovereignty and International Law

Russia strongly condemned Israel’s aggression against the city of Palmyra in Homs countryside two days ago, which led to the martyrdom and injury of dozens, stressing that it is a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and fundamental rules of international law.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a press statement today: “We strongly condemn the violent attack by Israel on Syrian territory. This attack, as well as all that preceded it, constitutes a flagrant violation of this country’s sovereignty and fundamental rules of international law.”

Zakharova added: “With deep regret, we must note that the ferocity of the confrontation in the Middle East has led to the devaluation of not only human life, but also cultural and historical memory. Not long ago, Israeli aircraft carried out a series of airstrikes on the Lebanese city of Baalbek and its unique temple, and now an airstrike has been carried out on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palmyra, which had previously suffered from ISIS terrorists.”

” Once again we strongly urge listening to the voice of reason and not to go beyond the limits of civilized behavior based on the system of human values that appeared with the advent of the 21th Century. We must remember that the escalation of the conflict makes it difficult to achieve the prospects for lasting peace in the Middle East.” Zakharova concluded.
