Russia calls on the Security Council to consider lifting some sanctions on the DPRK

Moscow, (ST) -Head of the International Organizations Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry Peter Ilyichov called on the UN Security Council to consider lifting some economic sanctions imposed on the DPRK immediately.

RT website quoted Ilyichov as saying in a statement today: The continuation of the economic sanctions imposed on the DPRK without change is meaningless, and this is clear to all rational politicians who are not blinded by ideological hatred towards this country.

He indicated that these sanctions have not led to an improvement in the security situation in the region at all.

Ilyichov stressed that lifting the sanctions will give impetus to the development of the economy in the DPRK and improve the living conditions of its citizens.

The UN Security Council has been imposing sanctions on the DPRK since 2006 under pressure from Western countries, led by the United States, under the pretext of its nuclear program.
