With the participation of 25 volunteers representing “Dou’ Souria” (Syria Light) and “Doroub” teams, a reforestation campaign was carried out on Wednesday in Ballouran town in the northern countryside of Lattakia in cooperation with the Directorate of Lattakia Agriculture in the province. The campaign included the planting of 250 pine trees.
Leader of “ Dou’ Souria” team Aktham Ismael , explained that the campaign is the second out of three campaigns to plant 3 hectares , noting the role of these civil initiatives in spreading awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and encouraging reforestation.
In turn, Wissam Ali, leader of the second volunteering team said that the campaign aims at enhancing the environmental efforts being made to revive the vegetation cover, preserve the environment and restore greenery and beauty to the mountains.
Head of the Forestry Guidance Unit at the Directorate of Agriculture, LatifaQassem, stressed the importance of preserving environmental natural resources as a major component of sustainable development and a guarantee of a better life for future generations.
The two participants, Basma Farhat and Aisha Taleb, drew attention to the importance of the campaign to restore the green cover following the fires that hit the province during the past years and affected wide areas, while Farouk Matarji pointed to the importance of forests in achieving ecological and biological balance and encouraging tourism.
