The” Qalam and Nagham “, (Pen and Tune) programme in Homs is geared towards attracting children and young persons who have dropped out of education and have been prevented by certain circumstances from attending school.
The program was organized by the “Life Skills” Team of the Directorate of Homs Culture and targeted some 2,500 children aged 8 to 17 from various areas of Homs, especially the slum housing districts.
Seba Wassouf, Head of the Life Skills Team, stated that the program began with a questionnaire for the parents to provide an overview of “Qalam and Nagham” during dialogue sessions with members of the Life Skills team. They expressed their gratitude and appreciated their children’s remarkable improvement after receiving the education program.
Wassouf noted that the campaign relies on active learning, life skills sessions and psychological support to attract and encourage children to learn and integrate with their peers, noting that there are many success stories that created a competitive spirit among children.
It is noteworthy that the campaign also included supportive learning based on training courses for transitional classes and certificates, all of which are part of the Qalam and Nagham program launched by the Ministry of Culture, the Directorate of Child Culture, last year.
