Putin Expresses Russia’s Readiness to Continue Providing Assistance for the Development of a Peace Treaty Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikolai Pashinyan in which he discussed with him the results of his visit to Azerbaijan last week.
“Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Putin, in which he informed him about the impressions of his visit to Azerbaijan last week,” the Armenian prime minister’s office said in a statement, noting that Pashinyan agreed to meet with Putin in the future to discuss issues on the bilateral agenda.
In turn, the Kremlin announced that the discussions between the two sides touched upon the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, while the Russian side expressed readiness to continue providing assistance to Armenia and Azerbaijan for the development of a peace treaty, including strengthening the border demarcation process, opening transport communication and providing logistic services.
The Kremlin noted that the conversation between the two presidents was positive, as Putin stressed that lasting peace in the South Caucasus meets the interests of all the peoples of the region, and Russia will contribute to achieving it in every possible way.
The Russian president met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev last week and touched upon the crisis between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Putin said that Russia has the documents that have existed since the time of the Soviet Union with the purpose of opening direct communication to spread stability in the Caucasus region, in line with the interests of all countries in this region.
