Protecting Agricultural Production Ensures Continuity

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Ahmad Qadri, underlined the need to develop and elevate agricultural sector through the development of new varieties of high-yield crops and disease-resistant in addition to introducing modern agricultural technologies, the need of application to this technology in the fields and improving the effectiveness of production. He also called for exerting efforts to reduce negatives that inflict the agricultural sector in all its aspects and the search for alternatives that will improve the agricultural production.

During a meeting with Agronomists’ Association, Eng Qadri  stressed the importance of the role being played by the Association and the need to strengthen and deepen cooperation with them. He focused on achieving integration in the process of agricultural productivity in both plant and animal sides, through increasing attention to the development of agricultural resources and benefiting of experiences to promote this sector.

Eng. Qadri also explained that the ministry is counting on the role of Agronomists in supporting the agricultural production and helping the farmers to overcome the difficulties and obstacles facing their work and ensuring the food basket of the citizen, which is the basis of our steadfastness in this fierce war launched against Syria
Eng. Qadri noted the need to develop contingency plans and crises so that it can be implemented at the current time to maintain the continuity of agricultural work and cooperation with the relevant authorities to find common solutions to the problems facing workers in this sector
For her part, Head of  Agronomists’ Association, eng. Rama Aziz, stressed the  need to involve agronomists in mapping out the five-year plan of the Ministry of Agriculture and various agricultural projects to be able to bring their expertise that would develop agricultural work and strive to look for other sources.

Eng. Aziz called to reconsider the possibility of activating the Supreme Agricultural Council to address and track issues related to the agricultural sector, irrigation and protecting forestry investing forests economically and environmentally.
