DAMASCUS, (ST)- H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad held talks in Damascus today with the visiting President of the Sudan, Omar Hasan al-Bashir, on bilateral relations issues as well as on conditions in the Syria and the region.
Presidents Assad and al-Bashir underscored that the circumstances and crisis of the scores of Arab countries need a new perception for Arab action based on the respect for the sovereignty of the states, and non-interference in their domestic affairs, which, in turn, would guarantee the improvement of intra-Arab relations in the interest of Arab People.
President al-Bashir pointed out that Syria has been on the front-line and any weakening of Syria is but the weakening of the Arab causes, citing Syria’s commitment, notwithstanding the ongoing war, to the basics of the Arab Nation, expressing the hope that Syria is as son as possible to recover and restore its role in the region.
The Sudanese President, further, expressed hope that the Syrian People are only by themselves to decide the future of their Syria away from whatever foreign interference, reiterating his country stand by Syria and her safety and would provide whatever support to the integrity and unity of the Syrian territories.
President Assad asserted that Syria, though of what happened during the years of war, has remained committed to Arabism as a believer in it, and underscored that some Arab countries dependence on the West would yield no benefit for their people and so it would be better for them to cling to Arabism and to the causes of the Arab Nation.
President Assad thanked President Al-Bashir for his visit and underlined that it would give a strong push for the return of the relations between both countries to before the war against Syria.
