President Putin congratulates President al-Assad on his victory in the presidential elections

Damascus (ST): President Bashar Al-Assad today received a congratulatory cable from President Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, in which he congratulated him on his re-election as President of the Syrian Arab Republic.

In his cable, President Putin stressed that the election results confirm the confidence of the Syrians in the leadership of President al-Assad and their rallying behind him to restore stability to the entire Syrian territory as soon as possible and to strengthen state institutions.

Putin affirmed that Russia will continue its comprehensive support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and extremism and in advancing the process of political settlement of the crisis in the country and the reconstruction of what was destroyed by terrorism.
