President Putin arrives in Damascus and meets President Assad at the headquarters of the Russian forces assembly in Damascus

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Damascus on Tuesday and met President Bashar Al-Assad at the headquarters of the Russian forces assembly in Damascus.

 Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a statement that President Putin visited the Syrian capital, Damascus, and held a meeting with President Bashar al-Assad.

 Putin toured the streets of the Syrian capital, and will tour many Syrian regions.

The two presidents were briefed by the Commander of the Russian forces operating in Syria on military developments.

President Putin wished the Russian forces a Merry Christmas.

On his part, President Al-Assad also congratulated the Russian officers and soldiers on the occasion of Christmas, expressing the Syrian people’s appreciation over the sacrifices of the Russian forces which fought alongside the heroes of the Syrian Arab Army against terrorism.

According to Peskov, Putin said that obviously a lot of progress had been made toward restoring Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

President Al-Assad praised Russia’s help in fighting terrorism and restoring peaceful life in Syria.
