Damascus (ST): President Bashar al-Assad participated yesterday evening in the religious festivity held on the occasion of Prophet Mohammad’s birthday at Sa’d bin Mu’az mosque in Damascus.
The President performed al-Maghreb prayer behind Sheikh, Abdel-Fatah al-Bizem, Mufti of Damascus. The celebration started by the recital of some verses of the Holy Koran.
Minister of Religious Endowments Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed, highlighted the great meanings and sublime values of this noble anniversary noting that the Prophet’s life represents a role model to be followed by humanity and referring to his mercy that came for humanity with his virtues and ethics.
Dr. al-Sayyed also referred to the values of martyrdom represented by many Syrian Arab Army personnel and intellectuals, the latest of them was martyr Mohammad Adnan al-Afyoni, the late Mufti of Damascus and its countryside, the martyr of the true word , as the takfiri terrorists tried to silence his national voice, but he remained adamantly adherent to the approach of Syria’s scholars.
The minister added that Syria preserved its sovereignty and people’s dignity and defended its soil with its national army that protects the beliefs and achieves the interests of people, along with its leader who protected the country by his wisdom and by being close to his people through inspecting the houses of martyrs, the wounded and those who were affected by fires as he listened to elders and children alike.
The Minister concluded stressing that Syria rejects dealing with Islam as it is being dealt with by Macron and Erdogan.
He affirmed that mistreating the gracious prophet represents an offense to 2 billion Muslims around the world, noting that Islam is not represented by Muslim Brotherhood or Wahhabism ; rather it is inside the hearts of millions of people.
The celebration was concluded by prayers to God Almighty read by Dr. Mohammad Tawfik Ramadan al-Bouti who asked the God Almighty to safeguard Syria, its leader and people and enable them to defeat terrorism.
Senior party and state officials took part in the event which included religious supplications and anthems by Sheikh Salim al-Aqqad’s band.
