President Al-Assad receives weightlifter Maan Asaad

DAMASCUS, (ST)_In recognition of his achievement in Tokyo Olympics and obtaining bronze medal in weightlifting competition, Maan Asaad was welcomed by President Bashar Al-Assad on Thursday.

According to the Syrian New Agency (SANA), the president welcomed  Maan Asaad and his coach, Qais Asaad and  Chairman of weightlifting Federation Hussien Al-Sheikh and congratulated them on their achievement, wishing them success in the forthcoming Olympics.  

The president said: “Although the other Syrian athletes,  who participated in Tokyo Olympics, could not obtain medals, their participation in the Olympics was a source of pride to them and to all Syrians in the light of the circumstances of war and siege  and shortage of capabilities.”

He added that the Syrian athletes’ participation is a rich experience because it allowed them to compete athletes from all over the world.

“ The winner Maan Asaad and other young men and women, who have tge spirit of challenge and determination to realize further achievements in all fields, represent Syria’s hope and the solid basis for building a better future for the homeland,” the president said.
