President al-Assad discusses recent developments with Russian delegation

DAMASCUS, (ST)_President Bashar al-Assad received today the Russian president’s Special Envoy Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.

The talks dealt with the situation in Syria in general and in Idleb in particular besides the terrorist groups’ repeated attacks on residential areas, which are located near Idleb, according to the Syrian presidency.

The two sides affirmed their joint stance towards the continuity of fighting terrorism and preventing its groups from going ahead with using region’s residents as human shield for turning Idleb into a permanent hotbed of terror.

President al-Assad and the Russian delegation asserted that Syrian state’s recapture of all areas and cities and the resumption of the work of state institutes in liberated areas is a main factor for the restoration of stability and safety to people in the region.

Moreover, the two sides tackled the recent developments of political process and preparations for the next round of Astana talks. They agreed on the necessity of coordination and consultation to confront the attempts of intervention by some countries in the political process.

These attempts aim at derailing the process that seeks to meet the Syrian people’s interests and to preserve Syria’s unity, independence and territorial integrity.
