Polyansky: The United States holds UN Security Council hostage in the service of “Israel”

New York, (ST) – Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky affirmed that the United States holds the UN Security Council “hostage for the benefit of Israel” by obstructing any move to cease fire in Gaza Strip.

Sputnik quoted Polyansky as saying in a speech during a session of the UN Security Council on the situation in Gaza: The Security Council has failed to date to put an end to the escalating crisis in the Middle East, and the reason is Washington’s consideration of “Israel’s” interests.

“The Council has become helpless, passive observer that only expresses its concern, and the 14 members of the Council are merely hostages to the United States against any measure that would immediately cease fire in Gaza”, Polyansky added.

Polyansky criticized the Security Council’s decision last June to cease fire in stages in the Strip, and said: The provisions of the resolution were not implemented and none of these stages, which have become unattainable, were achieved, unfortunately with the approval of the Security Council.

This American decision at the time included a phased plan set by President Joe Biden for a three-stage ceasefire in Gaza, and 14 countries voted, while Russia abstained from voting.
