The attempts to squeeze Russia out of global life are absolutely hopeless as it is actually impossible to do, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with TASS prior to the St. Petersburg International Eastern Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“Squeezing Russia out of international life is absolutely hopeless and actually impossible. And the pace of developments over the past months clearly highlights it,” he said.
The Kremlin spokesman mentioned a notable recent episode, saying that as part of preparations to the forum Russian President Vladimir Putin met young engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists that will also participate in the forum. “He said much about our sovereignty, both technological and industrial, and commercial, etc. President made an important remark that our sovereignty in no case means isolation,” Peskov noted.
In another context, Peskov stressed the importance of the International Eastern Economic Forum, usually held early in September, as it focuses on several factors that link Russia to the East.
Asked whether Russian President is scheduled to attend this event, Kremlin Spokesman urged not to run ahead of time. “Let’s not run ahead of time, but of course, it is also very important,” he said, according to Tass.
The Eastern Economic Forum is one of major Russian international conferences. The forum has been held annually since 2015 on Russia’s Russky Island. This year it will take place on September 5-8.
