People’s Assembly stresses the need to lift the Western blockade imposed on the Syrian people

The People’s Assembly appealed to the international community to immediately and urgently lift the unjust siege and unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, and to provide assistance to limit the effects of the devastating earthquake that recently hit Syria.
In a statement issued today, the People’s Assembly called on all member states of the United Nations, all regional and international federations, parliamentary bodies and international and regional organizations concerned in human rights to assume their moral and humanitarian responsibilities and exercise all forms of pressure on the governments of the countries that impose and contribute to imposing blockades and unjust measures on the Syrian people, especially the United States of America and Western countries.
The Assembly also called on these international bodies to work for an immediate lifting of the sanctions and to support the efforts exerted by the Syrian government to limit the effects of this disaster and take immediate, urgent and effective action to extend a helping hand and contribute to breaking the unjust siege imposed on the Syrian people so that hhey can overcome the effects of the devastating earthquake and this humanitarian ordeal as quickly as possible.
The statement indicated that the devastating earthquake left behind hundreds of victims and thousands of wounded, in addition to the displacement of a large number of families from their areas of residence which have been subject to severe damages together with the vital installations and infrastructure.
The statement indicated that what Syria has been subjected to for more than 11 years, from a relentless terrorist war, a unilateral economic blockade, and unfair coercive measures that included the economic, social, health, educational, and living aspects of the Syrian citizen’s life, has greatly weakened the local capabilities and negatively affected the evacuations, rescue, relief and first aid.
