Palestinian Red Crescent:  Gaza Strip faces the threat of famine and the international community must intervene

The Palestine Red Crescent Society warned that Gaza Strip faces the risk of famine, calling on the international community to intervene to oblige the Israeli occupation to lift the siege and bring humanitarian aid into the Strip, especially its north.
“Humanitarian aid airdrops did not meet the needs necessary to reduce hunger rates, and that all crossings must be opened to secure the needs”, the society said in a statement on Wednesday reported by Wafa Agency
The statement noted that the occupation deliberately and continuously targets relief crews, which prevents them from carrying out their tasks.
The Integrated Interim Classification for Food Security Initiative, which includes experts from United Nations organizations and international relief organizations, warned  in a report published yesterday of the continued high risk of famine in Gaza Strip in the light of the continuation of the war of extermination and siege.
It indicated that 96 percent of the people of Gaza Strip, which means 2.1 million people, are facing high levels of acute food insecurity, and this situation is expected to continue until next September.
The initiative made it clear that the entire Gaza Strip is classified as being in a state of emergency, which is the fourth stage of the classification that precedes the famine”.
It reported that more than 495,000 people face catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity of the fifth stage, that is, famine in which families face severe shortages of food, suffer from starvation and exhaustion.
