Opening ballot boxes to voters in all electoral centers to elect members of the People’s Assembly for the third legislative term
The Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections announced this morning the opening of ballot boxes for voters in all electoral centers in the governorates to elect members of the People’s Assembly for the third legislative term.
The Syrians will participate in the elections to choose 250 members representing them in the People’s Assembly from 1,656 candidates, including 200 women candidates, through 7,277 centers in all governorates.
In Damascus, Judge Hossam El Din Rahmoun, head of the Judicial Subcommittee for Elections, confirmed taking all necessary measures for the smooth running of the electoral process.
In the governorates of Dara’a, Quneitra, Homs, Hama, Aleppo, Lattaki, Tartous, Sweida, Deir Ezzour and Hasaka, Heads of the Judicial Sub-Committees for Elections, confirmed taking all measures to ensure the smooth running of the electoral process, referring to their adherence to the procedures to tackle the Corona virus, such as distributing masks and gloves to the heads and members of the electoral committees, as well as distributing awareness brochures.
Heads of the Judicial Sub-Committees for Elections referred to allocating big numbers of poll centers to avoid crowding and to achieve social spacing as a precaution to address corona virus.
The Ministry of Information equipped a center to provide free media services for journalists and the local, Arab and foreign media outlets to cover the elections, in addition to securing a live broadcast vehicle and a private studio to conduct TV and radio interviews.
According to the General Elections Law No. 5 of 2014, the election begins at seven in the morning of the day specified for the election and will close at seven in the evening. The Supreme Elections Committee can decide the extension of the election period for a period of five hours in some polling centers or more.
