On the occasion of International Day of Disability, a carnival event for people with special needs in the Youth Sports City in Damascus
With the aim of highlighting people with special needs and their diverse abilities in various fields, an entertaining sports event was held at the Youth Sports City in Damascus, in which children of different age groups participated, in cooperation with the Himam “Energetics” Association, on the occasion of the International Disability Day.
The event witnessed great interaction of children with their coaches through sports movements and the encouragement of their families in an enthusiastic atmosphere, in addition to artistic paintings executed by a number of the youngsters, which showed their state of creativity.
Director of the Sports Club, Mazen Bdair, said: The event is important to highlight the creative side of this segment, especially in sports, because sports helps people with disabilities regain their physical and moral balance, makes them integrate into society, develops their physical and mental ability, and qualifies them educationally, socially, and psychologically to be active again.
Chairwoman of the Association, Sabah Al-Dakhil, explained that this initiative undertaken by the association is important because it increases children’s interaction with the local community and gives them better mental health. Al-Dakhil pointed out the importance of sports clubs entering the field for this category because sports games provide an enthusiastic atmosphere that stimulates the enthusiasm of children and motivates them in order to extract their latent energies, which grow with proper training to carry them later to the field of championships.
International Disability Day falls on December 3rd to remind people of the rights of this category and to provide everything they need in order to contribute to an active role in society.
