OIC stresses necessity of preserving the legal and historical status of holy sites in Al-Quds

Jeddah, (ST) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation stressed the necessity of preserving the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem), especially Al-Aqsa Mosque with its entire area of ​​144 dunums, as it is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.

Wafa News Agency quoted the organization as saying in a statement on Wednesday on the 55th anniversary of the burning of Al-Aqsa that the violations by “Israel”, the occupying power, is escalating through repeated incursions into its courtyards by officials in the occupation government.

The organization reiterated the eternal connection of Muslims to Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that the city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, expressing its rejection of any measures or decisions aimed at changing its geographical or demographic character.

The organization called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities in putting an end to the ongoing aggression on Gaza Strip, ending the Israeli occupation and colonial settlement, and enabling the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, including their right to return and to establish their independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds as its capital, based on the relevant United Nations resolutions.
